Published on qipai.org.cn. Here are the top 150 players with their changes from last month. Shi Yue remains on top with a 25-point gap between 1st and 2nd place. Meanwhile the seemingly inexorable rise of the teenagers takes a break as Ke Jie falls from a 2nd place tie to 6th and Mi Yuting drops back from 2nd to 4th. They are replaced by Jiang Weijie in 2nd (from 4th) and Gu Li in 3rd (from 5th). In the top ten overall Fan Tingyu returns (in 10th place) at the expense of Lian Xiao, reversing the events of November. And here are the same top 150 with their 1-year change since December of last year. |

Just out of curiosity, how many players on this list would be familiar to the typical western go player? Very few I would think. |

I only know a few of these names, because I looked at their games on gokifu. That's also pretty much all I know about them. They play go in a way I like to see. Gu Li, Wang Xi, and Luo Xihe mainly. I do look at other's games, too though. I would hate to stop checking out other players, for fear of missing another one who might similarly delight me. Rui Naiwei and Nie Weiping I recognize mainly as authors of books, though their games aren't bad either. |

I'm probably not a typical western amateur since I go on Chinese forums. I have heard of the names of everyone in the top twenty and almost all (80%+) of those in the top 50. In particular, Meng Tailing does self-commented Tygem games (among other things such as video lessons) on WeiqiTV. Nie Weiping and Rui Naiwe may be the most famous players in China (Nie due to his phenomenal results in the China-Japan Super Tournaments, and Rui due to being the strongest female player for a long time - and arguably the strongest female player ever). |

DrStraw, you'll have to define "typical" I know quite a few of the names (maybe 25%), but I've been to China to play go, and have met a few of these pros myself and watched them play in person, and am thus very interested in the Chinese pro scene. That's probably very untypical, but I suspect there will be many on this forum who will have unusual or interesting tales to relate to explain their familiarity with Chinese pros. |

I recognize more names of these go players than I do the names of large cities in China. That can't be good for me... |

Well, I certainly am familiar with the top 20 and have heard of most of these names semi-regularly over the years. I read Weiqi Tiandi every two weeks, which covers the Chinese pro scene in detail. By contrast, I probably only know five currently active top pros in each of Korea and Japan. |
