I didn't see this post until now but last night I was browsing the Round 1 results on a Chinese news website (with computer translation) and I could not believe that Sada Atsushi beat Mi Yuting! I was hoping to see Mi since he might be my favorite Chinese Pro. The article headline said that Mi Yuting was getting more and more upset about a mistake he made. I can't tell if it was a complete blunder or just mistaken reading. The Round 2 games are still on Fox to view right now. The Round 1 games are on Go4Go. Here is Mi and Sada: https://go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/102210. The other Japanese players lost in Round 1. Ryan Li also competed and lost in Round 1. Sada lost in Round 2. By the way, here are photos of the event including photos of the players being checked through security -- why? http://www.chunlan.com/igo/14th/2news/2 ... sp?id=5161 |

Do you know which move upset Mi and, possibly, when he came to realize it was a mistake? I think that would be interesting to see. If I had to guess about security, I'd suppose they're trying to make sure they don't have any electronic devices on them. Even if they can't whip out a phone in the middle of a match, it would certainly be possible to work out a system where an observer could send some sort of signal at key moments in the game. But that's pure conjecture; I don't know anything about the setting or security history of this type of event. |

The right side didn't work out for him but it's not clear to me exactly where he went wrong. I checked with AI earlier and my impression was that Mi didn't make a complete blunder. He just played a few poor moves on the right that worsened his position and with B101 it was bad. jeromie wrote: If I had to guess about security, I'd suppose they're trying to make sure they don't have any electronic devices on them. I understand why they have security. But I don't understand why the sponsor decided to publish these awkward pictures of the players being patted down with their arms out. They could have published the players at their computers and been done with it.
