Ueno Asami has reached the 3rd round of the 2nd Quzhou Lanke International Cup, the best international performance by a Japanese woman ever, surely. She did it by beating two men, Korean Pak Min-kyu 8-dan and Chinese (former LG Cup winner) Xie Erhao. But it doesn't stop there! Iyama Yuta also got to round 3, though by a slightly easier route. When was the last time he won two international games in a row? Golden Week has officially begun a few days early in Japan this year

Iyama beat Fan Tingyu (former Ing cup winner) in the third round  Nihon Kiin webpage has next round's pairings. Going by that, he will be up against Byun Sang-il in late June. Ueno Asami is out. |
