Well, it matters to me. Compiling a database of pro games, I want to be able to find all the games of Rui Naiwei, without having also to look for Lui NaiWei, Lui Naiwei, Lui Nai Wei, etc. etc. Having a set way of entering the names means that the user can search much more easily.

Best wishes.

It is often helpful, as the ISO adopted pinyin as the international standard in 1982:

thank you for that info.
i checked korean ver of chinese character and could not find that characters.
i guess we often use different characters.

one good example will be lee sah-dol
李世乭
chinese people write
李世石
because they dont use 乭 character in china.

Actually, it's like this:

芮迺偉 -- "super" traditional version
芮乃伟 -- simplified version (used in mainland China)
芮乃偉 -- "mixed" tradition version (used in Hongkong or Taiwan, for example)

On the other hand, it would be useful to me as a user of your database if I didn't have to know how you decided to spell it, and could search for alternate spellings as well. I was rather confused for example, to find that the database had none of Lee Sedol's games. I'm sure you have good reasons to construct it the way you did, but ideally it would be good to be able to enter any of the commonly used English spellings and have the same games turn up.

Daal, you can check on the Names Dictionary for variations of an individuals name. There is also an article by John in the Encyclopaedia on Korean names.

Best wishes.
