Winner from last year gets in round 2 directly. The remaining players are normally the winners and runner ups of the three domestic TV tournaments - Japanese NHK, Chinese CCTV and Korean KBS.

Yuki Satoshi defeated Jiang Weijie by 2.5.
Iyama Yuuta defeated Lee Changho by resign.
Wang Xi defeated Lee Sedol by resign.

Yuki has a knack for fast games, it seems. Aside from several victories in Japan, he was also runnerup of the Asian TV Cup in 2010.

2 questions:

How long are those games(thinking time per player) and are they streamed somewhere?

The games in Japan and I think the others are similar are 30s/move with 10 cards of one minute thinking time you use when you go over the 30s. It's a bit odd of a setup but when you watch it, it works out pretty well. I think the one minute thinking times are more of a chance for commentators to help explain what is going on.

I know they're airing it in Japan Sunday morning. I haven't checked Baduk TV yet, and I don't know anything about Chinese TV on this event.

Iyama-Park final would be my favourite. Their last and probably only encounter was at 2011 Fujitsu Cup semi-finals. In that match, Park had turned the table in the endgame from a very disadvantageous position and achieved a victory and then eventually won the tournement. Since that time both players have climbed to the top in their countries. To be honest, such a final is more attractive to me than a Lee Sedol-Gu Li encounter, but you know this is just a personel opinion, of course.

2nd round,
Park Junghwan defeated Yuki Satoshi by 5.5.


Iyama Yuuta defeated Wang Xi by resign.

Iyama Yuuta definitely has his place in at least the world Top 10 players (I'd say even in the Top 5). Too bad the Japanese are still not interested very much in the international tournaments

I'm a big fan of Iyama too, however I think it is a little bit soon to say this. Iyama recent condition is good (althought he lost the Judan and the right to challenge the Meijin), but in previous years he didn't do so well in international tournament.

Let see how he advances in international tournament this year .

He probably will have triple digit ranking

Nice, that seems like a time control that would actually be fun to watch^^

According to the Korean professional ranking system, he was considered 21st in the world a year ago.^[1]

I'm somewhat disappointed Yuki couldn't make it to the final, but it should be a very exciting matchup.
