i know when i go to a new forum i look for the people who have high post counts and check them out.

The facts don't change, a post number is nothing but a post number.

This is interesting, you bring up so many complaints about this forum I'd say it's a favor rather than a threat not just to you, but for the rest of this community. Also, don't act like you know me.

the people with high post counts are also representatives of the forums, and should set a good example.

i would prefer you take it back because i do not want to appear as if i take part of something i disagree with

Sorry, you've now been corrupted and are part of the "clique" (or secret cabal, as I prefer to call it). You are now one of the elite members of L19 and there's no going back, ethical qualms or no ethical qualms. But don't worry, it doesn't take too long to get used to being morally bankrupt.

i guess you didnt notice that i couldnt care less about such things. i post in forums for my own reasons, not to try to fit in. if the admins dont like what i say, well thats their problem.

a dislike button would be useful. for me at least. a forum i went to a couple years ago had one, but removed it for some silly reason.

Was it, perchance, overuse by a minority of people?

like that. the topic serves no purpose but to pass around likes (which is already a bad idea but i wont get into that) and to inflate post count. though was off-topic posts already turned off? yes theres a similar topic but it hasnt reached that low of a level yet. it still serves little purpose.

what needs to be done is that a spam forum should be added, where people who are into not contributing anything at all can have their little fun (and post count would not increase of course) while off topic should contain posts with actual use and discussion.

alternatively, set some regulation on the forum.

Wow, someone needs something constructive to do...

xDragon, I agree with you. Spam has become a serious problem for the usability and clarity of this forum. You can find a good solution for this problem at http://tinyurl.com/yeto93c

Since the current usage of the like feature isn't to reward contribution, but just to show your support for some post in that thread, I don't think the like counter is useful. Perhaps move it to a less visible place (profile instead of on each post).

*edit.

I guess I'll remove him from the list again, because it's basically this, and only this, whole threat that is so annoying.

Both sides of this debate sadden me.

xDragon has a valid opinion, though very poorly delivered. I suspect he's regarding this forum and community as if it were a type of newsgroup, though it is far more dynamic (and complicated) than that. That somewhat skewed perspective makes for a frustrating time using this forum, I agree.

While I agree that dealing with an abrasive and disruptive opinion is difficult, it doesn't really help with a page of comments and jabs, a number of which are made by members who don't seem to have anything to say over and above the same repeated thoughts. It somewhat feels like mob rule in this thread, I'm sorry to say.

Don't get me wrong, most people have been generally polite, and are only trying to correct xDragon's misconception of the functionality of various portions of the forum. It just felt like 10 vs 1 or something. I think that posting over and over again how xDragon is wrong is pointless.

For the record, I disagree with xDragon on both the use of the Off Topic forum and the Like functionality. I doubt that will sway him, though.

its just human nature. people are always hunting for reasons to look like theyre better than others, so they will join in unnecessarily on something like this so they can look like theyre cool and fit in. i have zero respect for people like that.
