The Japanese term is Mukai Komoku and this pattern is one I have seen in professional games for both black and white. I was wondering if there are any books or other resources that discuss this opening pattern. Particularly, I'm looking for resources that discuss the pattern being used by white. I have been using this opening as white a lot, particularly against dual 4-4 stones. It does seem someone difficult to develop anything large from, but I have stopped trying to play for moyos as white as a general rule. What I want to know is how you are supposed to respond to approaches and how to use the territorial stones against openings like Nirensei and Sanrensei. |

The Rin Kaiho Fuseki Dictionary published by Yutopian has an analysis of the mukai komoku opening. The main thing is to think about how you want the game to develop when Black plays an approach move |

Go Seigen's A Way of Play For the 21st Century includes some material on it, but I can't remember if it's just a few pages or more extensive than that. |
