I have been going through Go Siegen's book Black Opening and it struck me that the old master really played something different in the last game of his book. I checked in the databases and it seems real as in same move order. The game is different in the book at move 47 which is not so unusual because Go seems to have tried to correct the games when he felt like it. The game record also challenges the notion that pros resign simply when far behind because Go lost by 22 points, in this case a large ko took the game right into the last few moves and they seem to have just finished the game without that "why doesn't he resign???" fuss. I have just included all the moves that fit into two diagrams but you can find the whole game. ==== Edit. Changed link so that the browser doesn't warn about unsecure connection. |

Normally one reaches the shape in the upper left corner like this. This gives white chance to play ![]() ![]() |
