White to play.

The black R13 Group can be put under pressure for good effect with the correct move. Do you find the good move? Do you find it in short time? I know the move from other contexts but it was not one of my candidate moves during play.

I am pondering how to increase my awareness for such candidate moves? Probably doing problems. I am grateful for your advice.

I think hane, cut, placement is not bad advice.

Firstly an attacking move needs to reduce potential eyespace sufficiently. In this case, B has potential at R8 and R15 also helps eyespace. But a group is only alive if it makes two full eyes so is it enough? W R8 comes to mind first. And then S9 to prevent B S9.

First focus on attacking with your one strongest group as such attacks will be alive enough to be powerful, especially if the opponent is weak at this boundary.

But if the opponent has cutting points, you may be able to play deeper into their control by making miai of escaping and killing them. This suggests S10.

Note that moves like R11 are never relevant as their weakness means that B can easily connect on the 2nd line perhaps in sente and W's outside gain is overconcentrated with P10. Helping B make eyes can barely be called an attack.

A vital point occurs only if you are strong enough all around and so is the defender. If you have managed to reduce the eyespace enough, then there may be more potential from the inside, trying to connect the defender's two potential eyes together. If W already had R8, then S11 is the standard tesuji.

From the right perspective, Go is simple.
