I haven't gone through the whole book yet, but it is just as the title hints: tesuji using moves played on the first line. Depending on your level you will either find this book full of useful details or not. If you are new to go, this book will have a lot of things you won't be using anytime soon, because beginners usually lose or win before things get to the first line. You will not see much astute play on the first line before 10k or so.

If you already have the basic tesuji and life and death, and just feel like buying something more specific, then get this book. If you are looking to hone your tesuji skills, get this book.

I haven't had a chance to get far in it, but it seems like a really good tesuji book. The problems aren't just single move. It's sometimes 3-5 moves before the "magic on the first line" happens.

"Magic" sounds good. There seems to be a series of "Magic" books, but no "Magic on the First Line" is listed there. Any ideas whether there is a connection between these?

Nope - this is a single book written by the recently late Nakayama Noriyuki 7p. He died just after it went to publication, from what I understand.
