Haengma is a korean word. the best description I can think of is the phrase in "lessons in the Fundamentals of Go " from Kageyama, when he has a chapter/section called "Stones go walking"

my personal definition could be "it's a study of how to develop the current position of stones, as fast as possible in the best/optimum way possible"

I just got This is Haengma and Master of Haengma recently. Both are very good. The first one is just about the best Go book I've ever read. It's more of an introductory book on the subject, but the concepts it introduces are invaluable, and later on it gives examples in the games of pros and top amateurs, so it is useful to a very wide range of players. It is mostly theory; there are just a few simple problems and a lot of examples. Master of Haengma, on the other hand, is more geared toward mid to high dan players; it consists entirely of full board haengma problems, and focuses on choosing the correct move based on the overall position.

If it's not too much trouble, an example diagram from the book would be much appreciated.

One concept it teaches which seems obvious enough, but is easily overlooked is that if a shape has a vital point that can be attacked, you probably should not have played that way to begin with. For instance:

$$|..X4361.....|
$$|...O8.......|
$$|..X,.O.X.,..|
$$|..X.O.......|
$$|............|

$$--------------[/go]

Black gets a ko.

[go]$$Wc

$$|..X..1......|
$$|...O........|
$$|..X,.O.X.,..|
$$|..X.O.......|

White should play 1 instead to prevent weakness.
