I need help to find some specific kind of books. I don't know if they exist at all, I just assume they do.

I am looking for complete games collections of Takagawa Kaku and Huang Longshi. I have looked everywhere that I know of, but haven't found anything yet. I don't care which language it is in, I only want the complete set of kifu in print (I hope the numbers are not kanji though).

Can anyone help me with this?

Senseis references a book that is similar to the one I look for (which I may or may not have to settle for):
There is also a very good two volume games collection by Ma Zheng: Qi sheng Huang Longshi quan pu / Ma Zheng bian zhu 棋圣黄龙士全谱 / 马诤编著 by Ma, Zheng 马诤 Beijing Shi : Ren min ti yu chu ban she, 2009 北京市 : 人民体育出版社, 2009

If I only could read chinese :/

From GoGoD: "As for games between Huang and his contemporaries, we were first blessed with the Collected Games of Master Huang Longshi published by Deng Yuanhui in 1887. There are 74 games - even games and handicap games - rescued from obscurity at a time when go in China was struggling. Initially Deng found just 61 games and published them. But he later found a handful more and republished his book. His excitement at finding the extra games is evident in his brief notes. Luckily we now have 105 games."

I have Ma Sheng's two volume collection of Huang Longshi's games. It's part of a larger 6-volume set of games from historic Chinese players.

The ISBN #s on the two volumes are 978-7-5009-3351-9 and 978-7-5009-3567-4. You might be able to use the ISBN #s to find some place that sells them online.

Together the two books appear to contain around 100 of Huang Longshi's games, maybe a bit more. The books are in Chinese but the game moves are in board diagrams (30 moves per diagram for the first book, and 20 moves per diagram for the second book) and they are easy enough to follow (the numbers are in arabic numerals, so you don't need to know Chinese to follow them).

These are pretty nice books on high quality paper with nice layouts, and are well worth buying if you can find them. The entire 6-volume set of games is a very nice boxed set.

I can't help you with Takagawa Kaku.

Thanks alot. Using these ISBNs I have found a couple entries in public national libraries around the world and a few chinese sites which appear to be online shops - I don't think they ship internationally though, since they don't seem to have an english version of the shop.

Where does one buy chinese books like these? For instance - I've recently ordered a complete games collection of Go Seigen from ymimports.

edit: All ISBNs of the 6 volumes:
978-7-5009-3350-2
978-7-5009-3531-5
978-7-5009-3567-4
978-7-5009-3351-9
978-7-5009-3345-8
978-7-5009-3344-1

It's a good question. I don't remember where I got these books; I've had them for a few years now.

Some members of this forum could probably give you some tips on ordering Chinese books from online stores, or you could try TChan's blog and do a search for instructions. I never had the time or the patience to figure out this process.

Several years ago when I was more actively collecting Chinese weiqi books I used to go through third parties (like Zhen Zhu, who also sells some stuff on Ebay, and a few others). You should expect to pay more this way, because the middleman takes his cut. I will message you with Zhen's e-mail, you can try him to see if he will sell you these books and what kind of price he would ask. I found him quite reliable but not particularly cheap.

When you do get a chance to try to find it in Japan, try the famous used bookstore Akasiya Shoten.

Currently listed there on their online catalogue for JPY55,000 (see no. 1900)

Perhaps if you have a friend who knows how to communicate in Japanese well, you might even be able to try to buy the set from them online and have them ship to you :) Not sure if they communicate in languages other than Japanese though. Good luck.

For that Chinese book set with games of Huang Longshi, you can try dangdang.
Check my blog for info on how to order from online Chinese bookstores :)

When I was there I asked if they would ship, since I wasn't going to take a lot on the plane. They have no problem with it.

Doing voluntary work does have its good sides. You get to know a lot of people who like go for instance. Long story short: As the tournament director for the upcoming 3rd China Cup of Berlin I had the right connections to get in touch with someone from China who is planning to participate in the tournament and who is willing to help me getting the books :D

why don't you buy GoGoD, they have massive game collection of any player. Then use Drago to print out the game record to study on the real board

I have GoGoD and Mastergo etc. ... so thats what I am currently doing. But having them in book form is still different (to me). I have like a small go library already, but I haven't read even close to half of them. But I am planning to read them all.
