Just a few days ago they released a free app for reading the Go Weekly Journal. (Japanese only) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nihonkii ... 45704?mt=8 For the time being only the current issue is available, and it's free. At some point (May?) they'll start charging for each issue, but the ones you buy will remain available on your "bookshelf". They're also promising the ability to replay moves in the diagrams starting sometime in May. The same type of app has been available for a few months for Shogi World. |

Interesting. Developments like this one sway my interest back toward an iPad. I'll buy a tablet this year, but have trouble deciding between a Xoom, Flyer or iPad2, so the available software and services will be the deciding factor. |

Ha - I didn't see you scooped me on this and I created another thread. ![]() The trial magazine looks really nice and I might buy it on occasion for the games. And for us westerners - remember to swipe left to turn the page ![]() |

It's definitely a welcome development, even though at this stage the app is very primitive. My biggest problem with it is that it shines a harsh light on my limited 日本語 reading ability. ![]() Since the content is all in the form of jpeg images it's also impossible to select text in order to perform an easy dictionary lookup. ![]() |

It is a pretty cool ap, but I feel that I should ask, of all the Go books and aps that you guys have how many do you actually use? Personally I only really used two when I owned an Iphone: SmartGopro DragonGoServer And on Android I am only using wegoigo and KGS... Am I the only one who has 16 aps and uses two? |

Wow. I just checked and I have 7: the new Nihon Ki-in app Igowin Joseki Tetsuki Tygem DGS SmartGo Kifu …and one other which hasn't been released yet… ![]() Of these I use SmartGo Kifu the most by far. I also really like the Tygem app although it still a bit limited in functionality. |

well more than 16 across both platforms. I downloaded everything that was free to see what was worth using. I paid for a few too. |

I saw that the app store page listed it as English and Japanese both. I take it that's in error? |

Sort of… In this particular case it means only that the app itself (not necessarily the content) should be localized for both languages. However, even the app itself is completely in Japanese at this point. I very much doubt they'll ever provide an English translation of the actual content. Go World is the closest thing available in English as far as I know. |

The latest update allows in-app purchases of Go Weekly and introduces interactive diagrams! I really wish I could read Japanese. |

Go Weekly is JPY 230 (15% discount from the JPY 270 newsstand price in Japan). I would be interested to know what it costs in USD if you are using the US App Store. The Japan App Store translates from USD to JPY at approx. JPY 115/USD, e.g. that 99 cent app in the U.S. costs JPY 115 in Japan. If the reverse were true, you might get Go Weekly for only USD 2! (I doubt it somehow ![]() |

In the new version of Nihon Ki-in app there are interactive diagrams, which is great but Japanese is a complete mystery to me... And to be in line with offtopic - my iPhone and iPad go apps: PandaTetsuki (new version), Tygem (iPad only), OroBaduk/CyberOro, Boardz, DGS, KGS(!, yup, that's right), SmartGoPro/Kifu, GoBooks, GoGrinder (l&d), MasterOfGo (l&d), MagicBadukGo (l&d), - I recommend all of them IgowinJoseki - ok, but always verify with brugo.be and eidogo, a lot of mistakes |

lobotommy wrote: ... PandaTetsuki (new version) ... This is the first time I hear about a new version of Tetsuki. ![]() Apparently they renamed it to 'Panda-Tetsuki', so the old version doesn't get upgraded. You have install it as a new app, but first of all you have to know it does exist... Seems to have some minor new features. The board looks the same (on my iPod, at least), including the permanent icons at the bottom of the screen and the floating navigation controls slightly above (When moving through a game, I have to watch where my finger hits the screen instead of where the stones appear to avoid touching one of the icons by mistake). One notable improvement seems to be that moving back and forth through a game no longer slows to a crawl at high move numbers. |

I used to use Tetsuki to watch professional games on my iPhone as well as on my iPad in pixel doubled mode. Whether from long chat or something else, it would crash as time went on (perhaps every 20-40 minutes). I have still seen a crash or two, but it seems to be much more stable. |

Wow, if this was in English, or I could read Japanese, I would gladly pay for issues!! Somehow I doubt a translation will come though? Or is Go Weekly translated elsewhere? |

Perhaps this app will provide the motivation for me to continue my Japanese language study. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- case ipad 2ipad 2 coverleather ipad 2 cases |
