I have recently bought the dead-tree version of Patterns of the Sanrensei. The reason
for reviving this thread is that owners of the SmartGo version may be able to answer the
following question about the comments on Game 12.
What on earth was meant by this text on page 128 of the printed book?
and either starting or preventing a capturing race in the lower left corner are miai.Here is the position to which the comment refers.
The next diagram in the book discusses a (not-played) variation in which
is used to createan enclosure at c5. I am guessing that Redmond or his ghost-writer/amanuensis has somehow been
misled by the slight similarities of the Japanese terms shimari and semeai.
That seems more likely than a native speaker of English confusing the terms capturing race
and enclosure. Even so, one usually creates, builds or makes rather than starts an enclosure.
Does the SmartGo edition have the same strange text?
This is the only mistake I have found in the book so far, apart from the notorious cover art.
