Is there an iPad app which allows you to play a tournament-like game (i.e. with time control) with somebody (both players sit at the same table and use the iPad as the Go board)?

You can do this with SmartGo for Windows. This makes me guess ( not know ), that it could also be done in SmartGo Kifu. It is similar to playing against the computer, but instead you put in the names of the two people and click on the box for SmartGo to keep track of the time.

I can see the description text on itunes says you can "Use as a Go board for two human players". That suggests it can be used that way.

Perhaps someone with SmartGo Kifu can confirm that suggestion?

I could be missing something but I couldn't find a clock. I chose 'play a human' and tournament rules, but no clock appeared and I didn't see an option to use one. So I suppose it can work as a board for 2 people, and keep records of the game, etc, but not time it.

SmartGo Kifu keeps a record of the game, but not the time. While it's something I plan to add, it's not a top priority, so don't expect it anytime soon.

With Champion Go, you can set it to Human vs Human and then start each player in byo of your choosing. No proper maintime but I don't think they envisioned people playing tournament standard on iPads. Interestingly, you can set different byo periods for each player. So the stronger player can take a time handicap in this.

For serious games, we've used a board or ipad for the game and then used a chess clock program or whatever on someone's phone to do the time keeping.

It seems Tengen Go Online supports this. https://itunes.apple.com/app/tengen-go- ... 72542?mt=8 (Please check the first screenshot)

It's basically an IGS client for iPad with local face to face capability.

It's a paid App and I haven't try it yet.

I just tried Tengen Go:

Yes, it has that option! However, this needs to be improved before it becomes usable:

- Both clocks have the same orientation -> one player will not be able to read his clock comfortably.

- No option to double-click for a move -> you will have to use undo for misclicks. However, in this process, the opponents time will be reduced (no time correction implemented)

I will leave those issues/suggestions as comments on iTunes.

That's strange, from the first screenshot, two clocks obviously have opposite oritentations. Maybe some place to configure?

My bad - you have to put the iPad in portrait mode - then the clocks are like in the first screenshot.

However, when I tried to use the app today with a friend, it crashed twice in the middle of the game. So unfortunately, until this is fixed, it is still not usable.

Too bad, because it even has scoring functionality and lets you export your game records.

For the record: I also tried iGoPlayer. This one does not have sufficient timer flexibility, it only supports absolute time without any byo-yomi.

No one posted the simple solution: Use a second ipad running a dedicated clock app. :)
