Kombilo has started misbehaving on my computer - it is continually crashing with "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

This was happening every time I started Kombilo so I tried deleting my preferences folder (in %appdata%), uninstalling and reinstalling the application and deleting my database and re-creating one. I can now start Kombilo but attempting to perform a search causes the same crash to occur.

For the record, I am running Kombilo 0.7.4 on Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

Mostly, this kind of error can be caused by two situations:

1. Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries are missing.

2. There's an application specific problem.

Since you already tried reinstalling Kombilo, then I would refer you to situation 1 by reinstalling the Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries.

You can either:

1. Try to repair the installation by reinstalling the appropriate version:

2. Manually uninstall the ones you have, then start the Windows Update utility and install the ones it presents you. (Note: This will likely break some of your other applications until the Runtime components are reinstalled.)
