From Hideki Kato in computer go mailing list "In the same afternoon, Zen vs Yonil Ha 6p was played on KGS as a part of Neyagawa Igo Shogi Festival in Neyagawa city, Osaka, Japan. (Zen19X vs neyagawa. The time was set 4 hours to avoid KGS's time control and actually a move was played in 30s). This Zen ran on a dual Xeon server with one nVidia GTX-1080 in my room. I ran seven threads. This shows recent Zen on a PC with a highend GPU is enough to beat pro at short-time settings." The sgf is here http://files.gokgs.com/games/2016/11/23 ... Zen19X.sgf And right now Zen19L is up for challenge in KGS in normal time setting (30 min maintime + 30 sec of 5 byoyomi period) but only for up to 3 handicap stones. Running on the same hardware as Zen19K |

Thank you, pookpooi! I’ve taken liberty to put sgf tags around your link, this way we can view the game right here on L19: |

Zen19L hasn't lost an even game on KGS yet, and just beat daxin 9d who some people in chat were saying is Wang Xi a top-30 9p. |

I just replayed this game and it doesn't feel like Wang Xi style. Also, the strength is not there (even taking into consideration the short time limits): see for example another game of daxin, a 2 stone game against Dom[6d]. |

Indeed Lucian. daxin kibitzed some later games by strong guest daxiang and said he himself wasn't pro but daxiang was (and lost). |

And these are both games of daxiang. The second one reminds us of the 3rd game Cho Chikun played against DeepZenGo. First game: Second game: |

Zen19L reached no.4 of topKGS player, but in an even game it just lost to mysterious guess name 'Sniper1994' (I assume 1994 is birthyear) And everyone assuming sniper1994 is pro instantly. |

Sniper is a nickname used by Mark Lee, the super-strong Korean insei living in USA (http://pandanet-igs.com/communities/aga ... teams/8/LA), but I think he was born after 1994. Also he played Zen as HitGirl7 a while back and lost (but this Sniper would have lost too if Zen connected at s9?). |

Zen continues to do well at KGS 9d winning the vast majority of even games (it's less good at handicap so 6d on 3 stones seem to fare better), but this game ended with a shocking ladder blunder: |

Last year they'll had to fix this manually, but this year they'll just train neural network harder? |

This was an impressive win for Zen when you find out who was the human behind the mysterious 'sai' username: |

His rank is a little bit better than Cho Chikun. Did this make Zen the strongest amateur player ever yet? |

Blackie doesn't play many games recently though, so his goratings rank is rather uncertain and I would just say he is about the same level as Cho Chikun. Benjamin DG (who is at BIBA and posted that photo) said Blackie wants revenge so hopefully we'll see another game from him soon (maybe with a more serious opening!). |

Move 14 (p3) in game 2 and the hane at f2 (move 16) in the last game make me feel like Kim was trying very (too?) hard. Or are these possible tactics (I'm not very well up up to date on professional josekis)? |

Or are these possible tactics (I'm not very well up up to date on professional josekis)? I certainly agree they are trying hard rather than playing a leisurely game (more so the hane) but both have been played professionally before. In fact I studied the first shape as it appeared it one of my recent games: viewtopic.php?p=211307#p211307 in which I made the leisurely 2-space extension which allowed the shimari. There were only a handful of similar sides in pro games and approach was a bit more common. I can see the logic in approaching as allowing black 2 big solid corners does feel a bit soft. As for the counter hane in game 3, the solid wall building is much more common but you do see that move too so it's not such an obvious overplay that pros don't do it. Probably helps if white already has a stone on the left side, but check out this identical pro game, black defends the corner though instead of fighting like Zen: http://ps.waltheri.net/database/game/44989/. |
