Nvidia is about to introduce a mining limiter for all RTX 3000 graphics cards. Will this affect KataGo? If one buys an RTX 3080 or TI with mining limiter, how to find out whether it effects KataGo? How many positions or playouts per second should KataGo execute without mining limiter? If there should be tests stating unaffected Blender, is this enough information to conclude that KataGo won't be affected by the mining limiter, either?

I have no idea - is there documentation on how it will work? Or is this the sort of thing that they're not going to even say how it works, to try to reduce the ability of people to circumvent it, and accept that it may have some false positives?

I would be surprised if it affected the CUDA version of KataGo, since most of the computation for that version is simply through NVIDIA's own official deep learning library, CUDNN. For the OpenCL version however, which has a lot of custom kernels, it's hard to say without more info.

Thanks for your answer according to your current knowledge!

It seems closed-source. From Nvidia or OEMs, I have not seen any specific information other than the PR statement that it shall only limit Ethereum and that [3D-]gamers will be unaffected.

According to the current knowledge on 2021-05-05 of one particular OEM's support staff member, the mining limiter will only affect Ethereum mining but not affect AI / deep learning. I can neither guarantee that this information is correct nor disclose names. This OEM's cards with mining limiter will get new names so that they can be distinguished from the earlier cards without mining limiter.

Universal go server handle: iopq
It doesn't even block Raven coin or whatever. It's targetted directly at ETH mining.
