Hi everyone! For a complicated reason, I can only play on go sites in which the connection is HTTP based. up to now, I only found the site Fly Or Die that works for me. Does anyone know more sites likes this? tnx! |

I second nova.gs. Been using it to get a few sneaky games in at work for the last couple of weeks, and very impressed with it's UI, and the ability to swap from correspondence games to real time if your opponent is online at the same time as you later on. |

Wow, you can dynamically switch time limits on running games on nova? Interesting concept. Also, as nova (for the time being at least) seems to be mostly a correspondence go server, I think it's only fair to mention the other usual suspects: Dragon Go Server (DGS) Online Go Server (OGS) Both of them have ladder tournaments. |

I'm playing more in OGS and I'm quite liking it (except that there seems to be no way to add automatic moves from an iPad) |

I'd try GoShrine or playok.com. They are both real-time servers, though the second one has more players. Unfortunately, PlayOk uses some sort of ELO rating, so you won't really know they strength correlation until you play there a few games... |

Unfortunately, PlayOk uses some sort of ELO rating, so you won't really know they strength correlation until you play there a few games... I second playok.com with the understanding that - it Plays OK for lower level players, but if you are higher level it is almost a wasteland, not quite, but almost. But either way - you can find a game any time of night or day there, there are always players, although by far not as many as on KGS, for example. But more than on Nova, I think, and all games are real-time. The drawbacks are, as mentioned, the stupid rating system and complete lack of any enforcement (so you get escapers, sandbaggers, or weaker players with high rating.) Still, because the rating is so silly, sandbagging or escaping does not really mean much. Lots of beginners 'visiting' from other games - PlayOk is a multi-game server, like Yahoo!Games, and with similar interface (but better.) As a matter of fact - tying in to the recent thread about KGS bans - 'anarchists' should feel right at home there - you can discuss anything, anywhere, and in any language. Each table is its own KGS room, with one board and one 'master' who can ban or block people at will - so in this sense it is really cool. Other than availability of high-level games or players - this should be a heaven for the unruly. But its also great for the 'ruly' and you can make many good and lasting friendships there. AS for GoShrine - I have never seen another person or a game played there. But I have not been there in ages, so my experience is certainly outdated. |

There are currently 30 people logged in and only 4 games being played. As for playok, 53 logged and 12 games going on (though I've seen up to 90 players logged in during the last months). So, yes, even taking into account the weird rating system, I'd go in playok. That's what I do actually ![]() ![]() |
