Reposted from http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/856 ... ckoo-goban at the poster's request: rkcpek wrote: A while back I found an image online of what appeared to be a german Cuckoo clock inspired floor goban. I thought I had saved an image to a memory stick but can not locate it.
I doubt it was made from a single piece of wood or from the usual suspects of woods often used for a goban. I think it most likely was a 'hollow box' style floor goban. The top i remember was flat, as nothing stuck above the playing field. What sticks out like a sore thumb were the details on the sides. There were elements of leaves and pinecones and some landscape elements. I think it could have been a nice paintjob made to decorate the sides. Either way i remember it as though it were bas-relief carving as seen on cuckoo clocks. Has anyone seen images of this particular floor goban online. I've searched heavily and im starting to believe that it was either a side painting or possibly a 3d computer graphics art project. Things that many times pop up and disapear quickly from peoples blogs. Seeking the Elusive Cuckoo Goban. |

Yeah, it was definitely real, I've seen it too. Nothing Swiss about it, though; just a carved goban with various nature elements. I imagine they're kaya cones rather than pine cones. |

I nosed around for this a little bit but wasn't able to find it. I wonder if it was one of the things that was on the now-defunct blog of one of our former moderators. |

I assumed something like it, but since I haven't yet gotten a wordpress account, I couldn't search for it. tchan001 wrote: jts wrote: I wonder if it was one of the things that was on the now-defunct blog of one of our former moderators. no now-private very quiet Ok, thanks. |

An update from the original poster: Quote: I recieved an email that was in broken english. Some of the words are german. It seems his father bought it at a charity auction from a church. It was a carved podium? stand? He converted into a game box that contained multiple games. He took it apart and I think he sold the carved sides. Something about 3 sides? Purchases?
- Any way you look at the situation it looks like the goban / game box was taken apart and sold. I have doubts that he might reply to my request for photographs of it. I'll post an update if I recieve any. |
