Post subject: | Several go boards for sale |
I have a 40 sun (4.7 inches, 12 cm) Katsura go board I am looking to sell. If there turns out to be interest, I will post pics. I bought the board a few years ago, but I find I just never have much chance to use it. I never really get to play at home, and don't have the space to just keep it out all the time (and have a young kid, so it's not a great idea to leave it out). I love it, but I think it's time for it to find a home where it will be used to play go. The board is basically in brand new condition. It has a couple of very minor blemishes on the surface, which are part of the wood, not damage. The lines are in perfect shape. It is an Itame cut, which is not the highest quality, but much better than most of the lower end boards. I've done a little research to see what reasonable pricing might be, and here are some links I've looked at: http://jzool.com/en/p/18355-Size-40-Kat ... ellent/481 (you have to remove the cost of the stones to get the price of their board) http://www.kiseido.com/go_equipment.htm (slightly larger board) http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/o ... index.html http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/o ... index.html (they don't seem to sell katsura) I'm including a nice plexiglass cover which can cover the board with a game still in progress, which is pretty handy. Given what I've seen, I think a price which is a reasonably good discount off of retail but not too low would be $600 plus shipping. I live in New York State, USA, and the package would probably weight about 25 lbs. I would require that shipping costs include insurance. I also have some very nice bowls and glass stones I can include for a little extra, but I figured someone might want slate and shell stones for this, so I'm willing to keep it separate too. Please let me know if there is interest (PM or responding here) and if so, I'll send/post pics. I'm not in a rush to sell it, and I think I'm not being unrealistic with the price, so I doubt I would take a lower offer, but maybe I'll change my mind. If anyone is interested, I also have a couple of MUCH older floor boards in somewhat rough shape (but still very cool) that I would sell for a LOT cheaper (maybe $100 each plus shipping). Regards, Poney Carpenter |

OK, I'll pull them out of the closet and take a couple of photos. Should have time to do it tomorrow (or worst case the next day). |

Beautiful stuff, redponey, I wish I were a rich man. But the shipping alone (to Germany) would be more than my budget allows. But, since a new job seems to be on the horizon for me, I may return to this thread in half a year or so ![]() |

I would love a goban like #4 or #5. But not as damaged/worn off. |

There was a post on the old godiscussions.com about someone refinishing a board like these, and it looked pretty good, but the post is not unavailable. Boards like this but in somewhat better shape do come up for sale on Ebay from time to time, but they are usually in Asia and have VERY expensive shipping. I got a couple of these from a guy living in Japan but in the military and could somehow use the US postal system to send them to be very cheap (like $25 shipping). If you decide you are up for a restoration project, one of the boards in rough shape might be great. I do actually have one other board which is similar to #3/#4/#5, but in better shape, but I was thinking of doing something like giving it to my local club for a prize in a tournament or something. If I was going to sell it, I'd want more for it than the other old ones, like maybe $175 or so (or maybe even $150, let me think about it). If you might be interested at a price in that range, I'll take pictures and post them. |

I wanted to buy myself one, once I reach 1dan. But this could be a good opportunity. 175$ wouldn't be a problem. I'll have to hold off using it, but mabe it's the extra push to study a bit more serious. ^^ |

Any way to estimate shipping cost to Germany? Seems like I’ve got a new job, and as soon as I have recovered a bit financially, perhaps 1st quarter of 2013, I might consider purchasing one of #3/#4/#5 … a friend of mine who’s a carpenter would work it up for me. |

I'll try to find out, though I suspect it might be too expensive to make it worthwhile. |

How much were you asking for the bowls / stones. Will you sell the bowls separately? |

If I could only create a couple more square feet in my apartment, I'd buy #4. Somehow, the rough condition makes it more appealing. As it is, there's no way I'd persuade my partner we can fit a block of wood she has no interest in using ![]() But one day we'll move.... Thanks for the pictures! |

Uzziel wrote: How much were you asking for the bowls / stones. Will you sell the bowls separately? Hi Uzziel, Sorry for not replying to the PM, I just noticed it. Thanks for your interest. At this point, I don't want to sell the bowls/stones separately. If someone is interested in the Katsura board, I want them to have first dibs on the bowls/stones, and if no one buys it and I end up keeping it, I'll want to keep them. If that changes, I'll let you know. |

I do have a fair but of room, but I'm trying to simplify life, and I live in the boondocks where no one would ever stop by the play, so even if I kept it out, I would only ever use it to play through professional games, which these days is sooooo much easier to do on the computer. Hence trying to find a good home for these boards. |

p2501 wrote: Still waiting on #6 :> also: your move @ogs ^^ Sorry for the delay. I have to go out of town for the weekend, and I'm not sure I'll get the pictures done before I leave. Also, I forgot I had told my wife she could use it as a present for her young brother if she wanted, so I have to get her permission before officially offering it. I'll try to get it sorted out and post pics as soon as I can. |
