Post subject: | Several sets of Slate and Shell Stones |
Hello, I'm running a bit of an experiment to earn funds for my local Go club. With the success of selling my two Hyuga sets I decided to try my hand at selling stones on a regular basis. I currently have four sets for sale. (Sorry in advance about all the hide buttons, the site was being a bit temperamental by not accepting more than one photo per 'hide') -------------------------------------------------- 1. Sized 25 standard grade with bowls (used) $120 Sold I received this set about a week ago. It includes 165 White stones (plus 10 chipped for a total of 175 white) and 184 Black. I've cleaned both the white and black stones and have added an oil to restore the luster of the black. This set is in good condition. As a bonus I'm including some bowls that I recently acquired. The bowls fit very nicely with this set (perfect for sized 25 stones). The bowls are of Itame cut but I honestly have no idea what the material is. The wood is too light to be chestnut and has a brownish-gold sheen which leads me to believe it may be Keyaki (Zelkova) but that is just a guess. I've put a lot of effort into restoring the bowls and while not perfect they are in a far nicer condition than when I received them. 2. Sized 31 Standard Grade (new but older) $180 Sold This is an old set I bought from from someone who had these stones sitting on a shelf for several decades but never played with them. This is a full set with 180 white and 181 black stones. Over the years the stones have darkened a little on the bottom (though this hasn't effected the top level grain). These stones would make an excellent set. As size 31 they're in that nice sweet spot between portability, size and playing comfort (stones 31 - 33 are considered the most ideal). I haven't oiled the slate stones but will be happy to do so upon request. Being unoiled for several years will not effect slate structure or play ability, it is merely aesthetic in nature. 3. Size 33 mixed grade stones, new (mostly Moon with a few Standard and Snow) $250 Sold This is a set of absolutely gorgeous stones, the nicest I'm currently selling! There is a mix of different grades though most are moon grade with a few standard grade and snow grade thrown in). This is a full set of 180 white and 181 black stones. As size 33 they're in that nice sweet spot between portability, size and playing comfort (stones 31 - 33 are considered the most ideal). I haven't oiled the slate stones but will be happy to do so upon request. Being unoiled will not effect slate structure or play ability, it is merely an aesthetic. As a bonus, I'm also adding two bags to hold your stones, usable as storage or inside your bowls (to prevent scratching). 4. Antique Hyuga stones and bowls (Snow grade, size unknown, smaller than 22) $100 Sold This is a nice set of antique Hyuga stones (native Japanese clam). Native Japanese Hyuga stones are famous for their exceptionally fine grade and extreme rarity. These stones are very old, the date I was given for their manufacture was 1912 and given the age of these stones they are most likely hand made. This set includes 209 white and 164 black, many of which have seen better days but are nonetheless beautiful in that way only antiques can be. I've done my best to clean and polish the white stones but once oil and dirt gets into the grain (as is the case with most old stones) it requires a professional like Mr. Kuroki to clean. In addition there is extensive chipping on many of the stones though they are in FAR better condition now than when I first received them, please see the photo comparisons. I've oiled the slate and restored it's luster, the black stones are almost like new! These stones also come with their own bowls which are perfectly fitted to hold them. I don't know the material from which the bowls are made but I suspect possibly bamboo. Stones after cleaning (current condition) Stones before cleaning (former condition) -------------------------------------------------- I'm willing to accept Paypal or money orders (in U.S. Dollars, no checks please) but for paypal please understand that I must add an additional 3% for U.S. customers and 4% for international (see paypal fees: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees). In addition I would ask that you please take care of shipping ^_^. Let me know where you live and I'll happily give you a shipping quote for the set(s) you'd like. If you have any questions or would like additional photos please let me know! Your questions need not be limited the four sets shown here. I have studied Go Stones and Boards quite a bit and would be happy to answer any general questions you may have. Thank you! |

I've received a few comments from people that were interested but nothing concrete. I'll probably leave the stones for sale here for another few days before attempting another place I had in mind. If you have interest in these stones please let me know. |
