Today I thought KGS was down, but I was using gokgs.com, instead of www.gokgs.com. Is that a problem on my end, or is that domain not registered. If so, has it always been that way?

The full name is 'www.gokgs.com', and your browser has been adding the 'www'. Did you change browsers?

I've been using Chrome. Of course it's continually changing versions.

it could be that www.gokgs.com points to the new server and gokgs.com points to the old server. Domains are a bit weird that way.

Stalkor has it right. I'll try to remember to fix that tonight once I get home.

this is not true (as Stalkor and wms also explain)

Code:
www.server.com
and
server.com

can, in fact, be two completely different servers in the domain.

But in practice, most of our browsers add a www. when we're too lazy to include it, just as they can add the http:// at the beginning, the .com at the end, and, in some cases, translate the whole mess directly into the actual IP.

I fixed it yesterday, then waiting until this morning for the DNS change to propagate. Seems OK now. Thanks for the bug report.

Possibly related: I can get the applet to work when I arrive through www.gokgs.com, but not gokgs.com. I'm on a work computer :-? which has had a weird setup/lack of java updates in the past, so it's possible this is an edge case, but it might be related. I'm using Google Chrome.

I should probably just bounce people through to www. when they arrive without it. That's the real name of the site.

Thanks for the tip about the applet though. I've heard that there are complaints about it recently, now I know what was going on.

Currently in Firefox I can't get the applet to load for any of gokgs.com, www.gokgs.com, or https, etc... Webstart client works fine though - https://www.gokgs.com/download.jsp

If it won't work for www.gokgs.com, then the problem is in firefox somewhere. I have a fix that redirects gokgs.com to www.gokgs.com, I just need to test it then I can put it into the web server.
