Just as a reminder

KGS has a help wiki, anyone can contribute to it. You need only a basic knowledge of html.
Lots of pages need translated from english into other languages

Do you? Really?

Whenever you open the Help Menu in KGS and select Help you will find the KGS Help wiki appears.
http://www.gokgs.com/help/main.html is one page in the wiki.
http://www.gokgs.com/help/main.html?helpLocale=de_FR is the same page in French.
There is a wiki room on KGS under social, if you are interested in contributing you might like to go there I suppose.

It's not really a wiki if it requires admin privileges to edit, is it?

You can ask glue if you want to help. She'll set you up with access.

Even wikipedia isn't open these days. If you feel like helping out, ask for access, I don't know of anyone yet who was refused permission to edit it.

Wikipedia isn't open? Since when? You just need to create an account.

I feel that having to create an account means that it isn't open. The idea that an account would make you a trustworthy editor... well I don't buy that. Anyway, slightly off topic ;p

It's not about trustworthy, it's simply about keeping track of editors.

And, BTW, nothing on the KGS help page suggests that it's a wiki. In fact, until you brought it up here, I would never had considered that it was on.

Exactly, hence my request for a link (albeit in an uncalled for tone, I'll go stand in the corner now).

No you don't. Anyone can edit wikipedia, account or no account. Same thing is true for Sensei's Library

I just edited a page without an account. Where did you get the idea that you need one?

You don't have the same editing rights anymore if you choose not to register - that's what I meant. Still I just hate wikipedia these days, it's so unintelligent.

Anyway, I just wanted to advertise the KGS help wiki a little more :)

Thank you, Javaness. So let's have it opened up to unfettered access to everyone. I find the present content not all that helpful.

I don't really want unfettered access. The goal of the KGS pages aren't to repeat sensei's library. It's to let people who want to write KGS help pages, write them. In the past people have volunteered to write help pages, but it was always difficult to put those into a KGS release, so the KGS help wiki was written as a way that when somebody is willing to write help pages, I can easily give them the ability to do so. If somebody truly wants to be useful, I think having them first say "Hey I'd like to change these help pages" isn't too much to ask. Somebody too lazy to do that is unlikely to make useful contributions anyway IMHO.

Very good. So we can bury the claim that "KGS has a help wiki" or are we redefining wiki? I can appreciate quality control, especially with regard to a help page, but let's not call it something it's not. Regardless, I wish someone would take the time to fill out the help page more fully. I'm sure it's plenty full for most of you veterans, who never visit it anyway, but it's not all that user friendly to new comers.

And there's no need to get defensive about this. If it helps, just think of us KGS challenged folk as idiots in need of extra help, or whatever suits your fancy. God help those who may think KGS can improve.
