I think (a) at (b) would have been better. I'm curious to see if (c) has sente value. Perhaps I will play it on my next move to try and bluff the weaker player. :P

W is making 4th lne territory while we run

i hope than when the B chain is closer we can play d it would be cool if it then could link with F 13: i was tempted to play d now but i couldnt see a follow up; on the other hand after W @e we might do it;
i was also tempted to just tenuki at c but a capping qt a by B would still be big...
b was really tempting too but maybe too soon ... if W play b now then we ll have d/e to play for us so i keep it as a threat

Not happy with the state of the game now/ we are behind in territory and we don t have much to show as a trade off :scratch:

We ll see how it turns out :mrgreen:

A: This move protects two weaknesses at once, but it looks so slow and awful. If this were my game I would never play this move, but I'm notorious for playing fast and disaster prone instead of slow and thick. This move also helps our bottom group a lot which is nice.
B: Not much to say about these moves. They lake away blacks base and let us attack black. This was my original goal when playing the pincer (Yeah, my mind slipped and I forgot that one joseki :()
C:This helps the pincer stone and approaches the corner. This would probably be my move in a solo game

I've decided to regard B and C as rough miai. Also, Loons is playing next and if black jumps in it's going to get complicated.

No worries, sounds like you had a good time.
My first thought was counterpincering at L16 or M16, but between white's investment in the left(+tengen) and black's lack of obvious eyes if white picks up G18 after some peeps, I was not completely comfortable with either.

Capping makes our stones a bit more comfortable. Mw42 will likely play a base at M16 or N17, and we can develop from Q16 naturally. Note that developing the right should indirectly strengthen K4.
PS: My cursory reading says we're fine bottom left.

Edit: Now that I've played my move, my brain has started recalling an analogous pro game where black played Q10 directly here, satisfied that white could not kill top left and not wanting to help white develop the top stones. I think (hope) my way here is possible too.

The last white move seems to set up a base stealing move like :w38:. I was a little bit worried about being surrounded and considered approaching the corner, but I really didn't like getting pincered. You usually have to play local after a peep, otherwise it's aji keshi.

I had trouble picking the exact spot for this move. Mnemonic should have played an extension directly. I played this particular move because (1) White is cramped as he tries to settle (2) Its distance discourages a white leaning technique with J14 and finally (3) It makes a conventional enclosure. Reason (2) is why I did not try to play more severely.

I wouldn't worry too much, Mnemonic. You're not the one who almost-but-not-quite tenuki-ed an approach on the only 3-4 in the seventh move of the game. :oops:
Problem is, I feel like now is not the time to play around Q10.

I feel like my move needs to address our marked as yet unsettled groups, and I don't see l-ish managing that
.
So some speculation:
> White looks like he has a little bit of a weakness around 'a', I am pondering if I can poke at it productively with 'b' or something (but being careful of our flimsy looking corner).

> If we do play a pointy side gote, I would (right now) want it to be around x. As much as our x-ed group looks like a light shape, it is yet (as I see it) very heavy.

> Our other precious resource is the marked, as yet not quite settled white group, but gaining from it is going to be a delicate affair. J14 seems to want us to add a stone for shape somewhere and somehow, but I haven't a clue on any specifics yet. M13 threatens an elongated triforce shape (at J12), but this may not be the time or place.

@Mnemonic
Actually, the only thing I am unhappy about in this game is my joseki choice in the bottom left. :oops: I'm not sure if it is bad, but it is ugly, to be sure!

I want to punch through that sector line (is that what a sector line is?). It might be a little bit of a fight. Everything I looked at seems ok for us (ie their pushing and prodding at cuts generally seem refutable) but some of our responses do need to be clever. If mw42's reading matches mine, hopefully he just connects and perceval follows my intent and walks through.

It's a mystery
Not a mystery at all, I'm perfectly happy*

*Our thin play here was uniquely mine. It looks like I had a good plan for white trying a messy cut, but I don't seem to have posted it anywhere.

Yes, welcome back mw42

Do we want to officially end this game (ie with no result), so we can look at all the comments?

i kept hoping that mnemonic was on vacationand will come back but he hasn't visited since 6th of august ... not sure he will be back :sad: .
I think we can end it unless someone around my strength wants to take over and we all agree ?
