No hidden comment on this one (too lazy, and I am not putting in diagrams this time). But this just feels like the best choice. Extending up just allows a nasty cutting sequence from white. Capturing the two stones requires white to defend and eliminates the bad sequence, but white must defend in a way that isn't good for black. Like I've mentioned before, why force white to do things that hurt me unless I absolutely have to?

OK, I think this is it; I resign. I cannot cut the two stones away, and without that option, I am just too much behind.

Thank you for the game.

a is simply much bigger than b. Even if I can grab some stones with c, this is probably gote, and attacking the top black group and the lower right corner will make the area there minimal, my remaining groups are minimal, too. I think I am perhaps 20 points behind now, and even if I can use my sente for "c" and reducing the lower corner, it is too much.

I feel I have made a lot of errors, but the last fatal mistake I think was not to push once more with G8.

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and the last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet,
They made the show, and that was sweet,
But I can hear the sound of slamming doors and folding chairs
and that's a sound they'll never know
Stay, Jackson Browne

Thank you kex. It was a good game. Your end board analysis seems good to me. I also agree, you should have pushed one more line at G8, I would have hane'd next, but it would have made an tense battle-- with no clear outcome (to me). I would have liked to hane previously instead of extending, but I didn't feel it worked out so well for black. I thought I would have to let white escape, and hope to escape myself. But getting G8 myself was too big a chance to let go.

I have to dig into the archive for my thoughts, I believe white had an opportunity at move 30 to really destroy black's top group. I remember being really relieved getting to play 31, I just don't remember why.

I believe 41 was a boneheaded move on my part

I think cutting at move 88 was pre-mature. As white I think I would have ran out a bit there and force black to make a decision about the cutting stones on line 4. The line in the game made it easy to decide to keep them-- and fight.

And so completes what is probably the longest running Malkovich game in the history of Malkovich games....

We haven't had observer chatter for many moves, so if anyone wants to chime in and explain why we play like 4kyus I'd be grateful.

Thanks!

ken
