Not much to say about this. I wouldn't want to repeat the same joseki as white, but it seems my opponent does, and I don't mind. The question is what happens after the joseki finishes. I suspect something like this:
Then I need to decide what to do with the reduction, at least a and b seem to be possible choices. |

A typical move being L10 and not that deep cap. |

This exact position was discussed years ago by two Chinese pros.( Most likely, it means also by other pros, over the years. ) TJ's o10 seems too deep indeed; that's not a reduction -- it's a deep invasion, probably an overplay. TJ's (a) cap seems natural. ( Most likely, the pros' discussions would've included whether at L10 or (a) M10 is OK or not. ) |

For those who don't know the joke: Uncle Johnny was sitting on his back porch, smoking his corncob pipe and gazing out over his farm land, which stretched out more than a mile to the railroad tracks. He heard a train whistle and noticed a train coming from the west. Then he saw another train coming from the east. He continued to watch the trains approach, puffing on his pipe. When the inevitable crash occurred, he took his pipe out of his mouth and said, "Helluva way to run a railroad." |

I think my right side looks quite formidable now. I would assume that white wants to reduce (or invade) pretty soon. edited a typo in the hidden comment. |

Ok, i begin my invasion.
If black 1 i will go for attachment to try to settle white group
If black go for big kill i try to treat black marked stone |

For observers: Isn't Chiodus's strategy a bit backwards? It seems to me that the attachment/trying to settle is the right idea when Black caps, but if Black plays more passively (like in the first diagram), an invasion is less necessary. White could instead continue reducing from the outside. |

Yeah, strange thinking from white, he doesn't seem to realise black can get the entire right side on the 5th line and white wins the game. In fact white's reduction is too deep and black's cap is powerful, L10 is proper instead (black can get the entire side on the 7th line and white still wins). In fact if black caps perhaps attaching under the side hoshi is a way to sabaki, Cho Chikun did that in a somewhat similar position against Takemiya, but there he had more aji to work with in black's walls and n10 was o10 (and Cho is great at sabaki! of course tj isn't as good as Takemiya either so anything can happen in this kyu game). |

I had a couple of ideas here (in no particular order):
I thought of writing a long post of all the options, but then something else came up and took all my time. In short: If he had played O10, I would have played M10. However, with N10 I feel cap is not so good, but OTOH his reduction is also not so severe, so I decided to tenuki. This approach feels more natural than d, and should work well with my M17 & O15 |
