I'm afraid I picked odd, just seems to suit me somehow. Assuming you meant you wanted white in the hide tag, I'll take the first move - if you want Black, just move the stone somewhere else if you'd like ![]()
Have a great game! The 4-4. Not much else to say. |

This is Gu Li's first move in the first game of his jubango with Lee Sedol, so I think it is good enough for me ![]() |

The sense of tradition is strong in this one. The sense of creativity and trying something different? Not so much |

He's probably aiming for the Chinese opening. If so I will approach the top stone. I read in some pro game review that the approach is very popular these days, and may be the best response to the Chinese opening. |

Chinese opening. Not sure if I'm all that good with it really, but it has the warm freshly baked cookies and milk comfortable feeling. |

If I'd play the high chinese, I might consider a pincer here. But to be honest, I don't like this as much with the low:
So I'm going with the KISS principle instead |

Simple does it. I also considered:
But mmm, I dunno, it feels like if I didn't want to pincer before, it's consistent to go and do it now |

I'm happy enough at the moment, seems like a fairly placid game. I like this corner more than the top left just because my lower right/right has some sort of potential to develop with if White pulls back. If White pincers, I'll take the 3-3 and be happy enough that way too. |

Looks like we will do the same exchange (except my stone is low) in this corner. So far this game has been played may times, but it will get more interesting a little later on. After this joseki I may play at Q4. It seems like a common pro move in this situation, but I am not the best at handling weak groups... |

Now the game should start getting a bit more interesting. How the lower right and upper left develop will likely dictate any middle game plans, so I'm still playing "wait and see" until we end up committed to something more definite. |

Well, he didn't play exactly as I expected, but this approach still seems valid. In any case, there doesn't seem to be any other areas of the board that are urgent. |

A sort of trick-ish, play, but not really. I mean, it's not like Black ends up worse if White knows how to respond, but I like it from territorial perspectives anyway. |
