Hi DJLLAP, as suggested I start our new Malkovich game thread right here. I suggest Japanese rules with 6.5 komi. As you mentioned I am ok with "open books" (unless you have a big Linux cluster running Alpha Go ). For nigiri you can pick odd or even: The number of prime factors which our game number can be split into. I wish you (and all of us) a nice and interesting game. |

I chose odd, so I guess you go first. |

Yep, you are correct about the nigiri. So let's start with the first move. Enjoy the game!
I cannot really give a meaningful comment at this stage |

I almost always play my first move on a star point as White. I see no reason to stop now |

In my recent games I sometimes played Kobayashi instead of Chinese, but I can't tell which is better . If white plays 3/4 I will probably directly approach. |

If he chooses the Chinese Opening, I will make a large enclosure on the bottom which is supposed to be good for that against the Chinese. |

As I suspected. If he pincers at h4 I will try out the variations starting with d7. Time to go to sleep now... |

Lets keep things active. No reason to respond calmly when you can go crazy and cause chaos throughout the board. |

There are obviously multiple other options, e.g. a-c or even tenuki. Option a has a bit slow and flat feeling; b and c seem pronouncing the lower border too much, e.g. for option b:
This way, black at the bottom feels somewhat over-concentrated and single-purposed. Option (c) seems counter productive with respect to my R16 stone:
From the game move, I'm expecting higher flexibility compared to these variations. |

Well, I'm more or less "out of book" which is a rather normal situation for me in Go. With my last move I want to maintain access to the outside and/order lower side. There are a few followups to think about:
Let's see if I missed something important... |

If you disagree with please post something else... I play at the outside as planned. White got some cash and I got some options |

Black's push and cut doesn't seem to work, so I am free to take this stone. It looks like I lose sente after this corner though. |

Afterwards I'll have to protect the cut O4. A "fancy" way could be C14 as combination of approach move and tweaking the ladder at O4, however this would be overstressing the position. White could attach at D14 and I could not continue with the usual joseki variation without losing the ladder. This is probably kyu-thinking, a dan player wouldn't waste any time with such dubious lines. I think N4 will be the most simple continuation and it seems that it will be required. |

The only move. Descending is bad because it gives Black extra forcing moves. |

There is really no choice |

Sente is as sente does. I expected the atari ko fight, so this is a welcome change. |

Seems also more or less forced. Any other idea? |

If I get the chance, I will jump in at "a" for a reducing move. If Black protects, I will take a big point somewhere else
