Therefore, if White still wants to take the corner, then blocking Black R11 with S11 is necessary. However, after Black continues with Q11, White S12, this gives P9 more liberties, making the push and cut at M12, M11, L11 more effective (see below). Meaning that White may simply want to let the corner live and try to get a big and more solid center (which I think would be easy to do in this position).

Since I have not been playing this game out on a board, I have to be careful about missing a special tesuji or myoshu, especially if my opponent is, and choosing strategies and variations that lead to fairly simple or straightforward outcomes.
