Here goes another game. Good luck to you, my opponent! The theory is that joppon is weaker than I am. These games are supposed to be learning tools, so my plan for this game is to play simple, punish mistakes to the best of my ability, and avoid trick plays. I guess I'm going to be relying on my reading again. ![]() |

I forgot to say: komi: 6.5 Japanese scoring
Have a good game Marcus. The (first few moves of the) mini chinese is the onnly fuseki I know. So no deep thoughts yet. |

EDIT: ![]() I've never tried this opening. In theory, this stone will provide a small amount of support for approaching the 3-4 in the lower right. |

Marcus, all the extra spaces before each of the $$ are messing up your diagram. |

I know ... the (first few moves) of the all-star-point openings. Besides, Magicwand once wrote that at our level fuseki is not that important. And let me tell you, he's absolutely correct. ![]() Now, since I can't play F3, I'll take some territory. I also considered D15. But it doesn't really matter, to me, which one I choose. |

Marcus: thumbs up, i like this style of opening and it is rare to see observers: though i guess i wouldn't play it here, because it pushes black to play the shimari he indeed played and then it is a bit hard to use influence of the white mokuhazushi maybe just answer with a white shimari? |

Laman: Glad you like it! I'm deep into an experimental phase of my Go, so this was something I wanted to try. Perhaps I've been conditioned to see things like this, but I feel like there's no other alternative here except to play the wedge here, at least if I want to avoid a huge Black moyo. ![]() |

Even after using this so often, I'm still not great at dealing with all the variations that can occur. Let's see what MHO chooses to do. |

An interesting choice by my opponent. I feel comfortable leaving the upper left alone for now, in exchange for getting to attack the upper right more severely. My opponent has chosen to make this game more complicated. Let's see how he does with this ... |

I can't think of many moves that white could play that won't result in a fight in the top right corner. Which is just the way I like it. |

3-3 was inevitable, I suppose. Variations diag 1a
Diag 1b
Diag 1c
Black cannot live. Diag 2
Black intends to kill white's group at the top. And 'a' is a good pt for black to start attacking. Diag 3
Diag 4
Black at 'a'. This kind of running battle is something I'm used to. But I would like to put white under far more pressure than I can here. And I don't like white's potential up top either. Diag 5
B then plays 'a', W 'b or c' and then B 'd, e or f'. This looks OK to me but it's not my style. |

A more likely sequence than in my last post
'a' or 'b' instead of 7? The entire sequence is unlikely anyway. |

Again, the only move I can make. Just waiting for my chance to tenuki. ![]() |
