We can try your variant next, prokofiev. :)

Alright! See the rules below!

I'll moderate (though I confess to being less organized than Phelan). Let's take the first 9 players who are up for it. Phelan, though, has a spot reserved if he'd like it, as does regiongo, who seems already to have expressed a desire to play

(but please respond here as well, regiongo, to show that you want to play this variant).

Anyways, here are the rules:

The Rules wrote:
We'll have 9 players (more/less if interest warrants, in which case N in (b) may be modified. After all players are selected, the players will choose whether to play 9x9 again, or move to 13x13 or 19x19.

Rules:

a) 5 players on black, 4 on white.

a) Players rotate choosing moves (i.e. no voting for moves)

b) Every N cycles through each player moving, a player is voted off. N=1 for 9x9, N=2 for 13x13, N=3 for 19x19. (The order will be offset after each cycle in some way to make it so each player's moves will alternate in color.)

c) The white team, with one fewer player, will have a (not known) player (the "guardian angel" is I suppose the usual term) who will, just at the end of a cycle and before voting occurs (I'll mention when this has happened each time) pm me the name of a player who will be saved (may be the guardian angel him/her-self).

d) At each time to vote off a player, each player will vote for someone. If the player with the most votes has been "saved" then the player with the next most votes is removed.

e) The last player on any team may not be voted out. If such a player gets votes, they're discarded and the next highest vote getter is voted out.

e) Discussion by players is encouraged (and pm's between players are allowed -- sigh)

(modified from my original suggestion here http://lifein19x19.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2814#p2814)

The modification is to make it more Mafia-like: this time there is a 'good' side that you want people to think you're on and a 'bad' side from the beginning. If people strongly dislike this, I'll change it.

Great, two players so far. I updated the first post with a player list. Phelan and regiongo please confirm whether you'd be up for playing.

If 9 is too lofty a goal, we can shoot for 7 instead.

Seems some responses have dried up a little bit. ;)

Before I say "I'm in", what are the time requirements for moves? I'm definitely interested, but don't want to hold up the game because it takes me a while to respond.

I guess at this point we can't really be picky with time settings! I guess it would be like the malkovich games: no requirement, but nice if there can be at least a move per day or a message from the person who's next to move saying how long they'll be.

If you're in schultz, let's try for two more players to bring it to seven. I can play if necessary but probably best if I don't. Why don't those already in start suggesting which size board they'd like.

Also, it seems past the point where regiongo has a reserved spot.

As for board size, I'd vote for 9x9 or 13x13 but don't really have a lot of preference either way.

Hopefully I can play a decent game, as well as play a decent game...if you get my meaning. ;)

I also prefer a small board. 9x9 or 13x13 are fine.

Are people still interested in this, or a straight mafia game?
