Want your name on a go stone?
Want a logo engraved in a stainless steel stone?
Want a custom rank medallion?

I can offer these products through the use of new 3D printing, a cutting edge technology that builds up parts from particles. Materials available include several types of plastic, stainless steel, gold, and even glass.

I'll be able to post pictures of a stainless steel go stone with "AGA 1d" carved into it tomorrow. Until then feel free to browse my shop to see what is available already, and I'll be taking requests. Because of the nature of this 3d printing technology, small custom orders are available. It is the same price proportionally to print 1 object or 1000 objects, so there is no need for a minimum order!

Here is a direct link to this stone:http://www.shapeways.com/model/148736/1d_stone.html?gid=mgaga
The price for a custom stainless steel stone is currently $25, and includes free shipping, and a $10 donation to the AGA!

Please Please give me ideas of other things you'd like to see!

Wow, how does that work with stainless steel?

Can you do custom pieces if people supply 3d models?

hey if you've got your own 3d model... do it yourself! Check out what shapeways.com does =)

also, they made the front page of the ny times today! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/14/techn ... nt.html?hp

If someone wants the go stone without an aga donation, use this one: http://www.shapeways.com/model/155032/e ... tml?gid=mg
It is just $16 for the stainless steel version, and does not include an AGA donation. Shapeways does charge a minimum of $25 per order so you'll need to find another part to order.

'How does stainless steel work' you ask?? well, you upload a model, then some magic happens, and then you get the part! =)
read more details and watch a movie here: http://www.shapeways.com/materials/stainless_steel

Oh, I see, I thought you personally owned the printer, lol. Still, that's really cool.

It was brought to my attention that people may not realize that the object I am offering is the same size and shape as a go stone.

I can offer stones with anything engraved into them... not just ranks.

If you have a saying or slogan or symbol you'd like on one, I can do that too. something like "wish you played here?" or "your group is dead" or any kanji or name or date or tournament engraved in it. Minimum order is JUST ONE STONE!

I nice idea would be a "stone" with Sente on one side, and Gote on the other. :-)

It's not clear how this works - it says the minimum order is $25, so one can't order a single stone?

How much would shipping to France be?

The stones are all $15 or $16, shapeways wont accept less than $25. So yes, sure, you can order a single stone, but since the minimum order is for $25 but you're wasting $9. Find something else on the site you'd like to spend the $9 on, or order two stones or something like that to not waste.

free shipping! =)

here is a gote/sente stone that I just made and is available now.

361 stones would cost... way too much =) This manufacturing process is made for making a few custom things, and not a mass produced run.

I've gold plated the AGA 1D stone that I have, and it looks great!

Hhm! I wonder what a set of gold and silver stones would cost? The material alone would probably cost about $125,000 if each stone were half an ounce.

I made and sent out a stone to Madge Martin in France, with a few initials engraved. Polished stainless steel. She loved it.

here is her stone before the polishing:

Is there information somewhere online (wikipedia?) that describes the physics and engineering of this technology?

Yes  . I assume you wanted assurances that the article is accurate and informative, but I can't personally give you that.
