SDK Game

Post by Splatted »

This one went to endgame but was cut short by my poor connection. (I think I was ahead though) The things I most want to know are:

1) How would you have dealt with the D15 stones after move 32.
2) How would you have attacked the weak group created at move 40.
3) Whatever you think I should know.

P.s. It seems the letters I used as markers in Drago don't show up on Eidogo. I've gone through and changed them to other symbols but I've only changed the wording where there's more than one so if a comment says "at A" it means "at the circled point".

For 33 you could try c8 to make miai of c13 and c3 though it's a bit cheeky.

I would have played O2 around move 68.
This would make sealing white into the corner easier.
White will probably try to come out which gives you a wall in sente on the other side.

Thank you for the replies.

I was tempted to do this in the game but worried white might play C13 and then after I played C3 the D8 hane would be double as an attack on my C8 stone. That's why I played F5 first, but I think that was maybe too lacking in fighting spirit because it does look like white's corner could easily get in to a lot of trouble that way. I didn't look at it in much detail in my review so it's definitely worth looking in to some more. :rambo:

Interesting move. I'll need to examine it more before saying anything like "yes I should have played there" but I think this kind of thinking, taking control of the flow of the game and inducing my opponent to ask for the moves I want to make, is something that was lacking when I just plopped that stone down on a big point.

I would have played 33 at H15.

To attack the group created at move 39, I like E9 at move 42. Its primary effect is to work at connecting your groups - which ought to be your first priority - and then aims at attacking.

Play O4 at 18. If he has a solid corner and you have a solid wall facing your stones at J4 and F3, you get more from the exchange.

Thanks everyone I've spent some time going over the comments and they've been very helpful. I still can't find a followup I'm happy with after :w32: , but I guess that's what happens when you make a mistake and the time spent studying the position has been worthwhile.

I'll now go ahead and say yes, I think I should have played there.

These moves seem like clear improvements, thank you.

The idea being that it threatens to seperate or press down on white's top right group while also giving black shape so that being pushed with C12 D12 no longer feels like such a bad thing? My initial reaction was that I really liked this idea but having looked at it a bit more I'm no longer so sure. If I was certain white would passively defend with something like H17 I'd definitely play it, but if he jumps out at k14 he can strengthen his group while pressuring mine, and I feel like this game becomes quite easy for white.
