Here is a game that I played today, and the more I play the more I notice this huge flaw in my play. My opening was a bit better, up to a point where I had at least 20 point advantage. However I was shocked when I barely won by 6.5 points. I thought I had strong groups and that I could fight easily, but my opponent found some really good moves that ruined my plans. Could you point out some big mistakes that I made? I kinda feel I did make a lot of mistakes, perhaps not in opening but in middle game fighting. Like the first dumb mistake was G16.

Thank you for the review. I actually wanted to play Q9, F6 and I was thinking about making a one space less jump with the top left group, just as you pointed it out. How do I get rid of these bad habits? Like, I could have played those moves, but something bothered me and I decided not to, wish I could just bash these stupid moves out of my head. |

You're welcome. Krama wrote: How do I get rid of these bad habits? Very good question, also very common question.- Work hard. Work very hard. - Find a good teacher. Rinse and repeat. Without access to a good teacher, there are good books; have your games reviewed, either here or on KGS, etc. You still need a good eye to sort out the good advice and good comments. I have only one comment: about move 35. I don't know that it is better, but it is NOT passive. |

Joaz Banbeck , thank you for the vast explanation. I think I should pay more attention at those kind of moves. |
