Post subject:  Even Game Against 2 Dan

This is a correspondence game I played against an OGS 2 dan. Considering our rank difference I feel okay with the result, but I would like to know if there is anything I could have done better. I had counted toward the end and realized that I was behind, so I did mess around with some moves in the upper right that I knew were bogus if my opponent played correctly. I just didn't want to go down without a fight.

Hi moyoaji,

Just a thought : :w32: seems to close to the black group ("stay away from thickness"). This group is very solid and your move can not put any pressure on it. As a result black can attack your stone very strongly. Notice also how your e3 group becomes weaker in the process due to black's moves at e/g/j7.

Kageyama treats this kind of move in chapter 5 of Lessons in the fundamentals (p. 98-99).

I hope this helps !

c14 shimari looks like the first mistake to me, it's a break from the important areas of the board. Either keep up the early approaching at bottom left, or play an extension on the right side which both helps your stone there and reduces the thickness black gets from pressing on top (or taisha for funzies). After o17 and then d3 black has two big corners and it's hard for white.
