Hi all. I'm a very new player and I'm hoping to get some insights into what I'm doing wrong (and right) in my playing at this point. That said, would anyone be willing to comment on one of my recent games? It was played on OGS and I lost by resignation. A big thanks in advance to anyone who cares to comment! http://online-go.com/game/446347

Hi dem, Welcome! :) May I ask approximately how many games have you finished so far (since you started Go) ?

Unrelated question: is there a way to save a game from OGS in SGF ?

Here's the game embedded.

In the new OGS/Nova there's a button on the left side of the game view that looks like an arrow pointing down onto a hard-drive icon that will download the SGF.

I see a couple people beat me to the punch in replying to your second question. Sorry about that. I'll try to just embed the game next time. In response to your first question: I've played 54 games on OGS and a couple against bots on my own. Over half of my finished games are probably 9x9. I would definitely say I'm much more lost on a 19x19, especially in terms of fuseki. Probably to be expected. I don't feel I'm making very good progress, although I'm certainly better than when I started!

Yeah the opening is mighty confusing.

For your level its probably enough to stick to the basics:
First the corners, then the sides, then the middle.

If you want some more in depth information, the book "Opening theory made easy" is considered one of the best on the subject, it sticks to very basic principles and illustrates them well.

Also this helped me personally:

Its more directed towards higher DDKs, but I'm sure you can get some basic ideas out of it as well.
