The alt-text for those who don't visit much is something you can see by hovering over the image. "I've developed a more logical set of rules but the people on the chess community have a bunch of stupid emotional biases and won't reply to my posts." |

Recently I heard one of czech players talking about go in radio. He said something like: "When you first play go you feel like a genius, next you feel like a total idiot and in the end you start like it." |

Redbeard wrote: Yep, beat to it as well ![]() Your approach is a bit too radical though. There is nothing wrong with variants, as long as they're properly understood. For me, variants are fun ways to pass time when you want to play Go but are momentarily tired of the normal stuff. I love one-colour go and lottery go and I respect whoever invented it. What I would raise my eyebrow at is someone inventing a variation to improve go, specially if the arguments involve obvious lack of understanding of Go itself. That reminds me... When I started playing, my initial impression was that the game wouldn't be too varied, considering there was only one type of board and piece, and I thought it would be cool to play in differently shaped boards (cross shaped, hole in the middle, etc). I didn't tell anyone because I suspected it came from my lack of understanding of the game, and experience confirmed that. However, I have recently played a game in a cross-shaped board and had a lot of fun with it! It adds nothing of value to the game of Go as a whole, but it is fun =). (By the way, convex-corner joseki are a lot of fun). |
