I decided to do a survey of player activity in EGF member countries. The survey was not very broad at all, and only looks at the number of people competing in a given year. In order to make some comparisons, I have chosen the years 2000 and 2005 to use as reference points. They give pre, and post, Hikaru boom figures. Then on top of that we have 2010, 2011, and 2012 to suggest the current trend.

I was surprised by the expansion in player population in Romania and Turkey. Most of the leading members have shown a drop in numbers over recent years. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean a decline in the number of Go players. The figures below represent only the tournament players, as sourced from the EGD. Makes you wonder about 1 vote per country :)
