I played a whopping 4 games today. I have questions regarding the middle game fighting in general as you indicated before. Many thanks in advance:)

25 - if you don't have a good move, play elsewhere: good strategy; I give an overview of all possibilities and conclude tenuki was a good idea, althouh myself I would probably continue 35 in splitting attacks, double hane is a good tool 45 - take territory while attacking: dan level play! 53 - attacking options (similar situation as 24) 93 - a major mistake in L&D 97 - second chance to live 108 - positional judgment dan level 121 - a few alternative proposals 130 - end of middle game and comments |

A few takeaways from other games: mmsss: move 37 - descend first to the 1-2 point; this makes all the difference when you can't atari at 1-1 ushigo: move 47 - before embarking on a cut of that calibre, which will spread a fight all over the board, better think again fuma3: the "peep & cut" sequence was DDK-ish; I'll give a review of that game if I have time Overall, you are developing a good technique in attack & defence. So in due time you can shift your attention to direction of play (to decide which side to attack) and life & death (to kill & live when necessary) |

Here's a review of the last game. I didn't say anything about black's reduction directly in there, but it was a bit deep, so your idea to surround seems decent enough. That's a good time to count, though, and see what you need to have to win. If you can afford to give up some points and still win, it's a lot less risky than maybe or maybe not killing an invasion.

Two plays worth considering are R-14 and Q-14. Black is thin here. These plays look to renewing the attack on the White group. |

Ah, I got the colors wrong. White missed an opportunity to kill. |

You: I think the middle game fight in the middle and my invasion at R8 could have costed me the game. KW: your invasion at R8 was perfect Your soft treatment of his invasion at the bottom made the game even again or perhaps better for Black. The centre fighting was decisive: as said, try strengthening your weakest stones first in crosscut fights (but read all options too) Detailed review: |

Hi PlaySlow, Maybe M3 more natural. Shape problems. Maybe jump; B cannot wedge. Maybe unclear which direction is most profitable. Realize the floating B stones are already a burden for B -- there's no hurry. Tenuki and take a big point; decide later if/when/how to attack. ( Mostly because it seems the bottom is not very profitable -- so many 3rd like stones already -- how much can you gain there ? ) You induce B to go toward the top, where there's potential. Why not C8 ? B7. D5. B5. E17. Locally, K6 kosumi aims at N6 follow-up. B gets a local shared point. Agree with your note; I'd also take 3rd line. How about N10 ? Agree with your note; fix your shape directly. You should've read more ... ... is at a funny place. |

Hello all, I just wanted to inform you about the latest situation about me & go. Since I began my new workplace on August 15th, I have played only one day, 6 games. I have managed to reach 6 kyu but didnot solve any tsumego since that time. Work has been hectic since then. I'll try to spare some time starting from this week on! |

More games and some questions about a game I've won on foxy. I think I've screwed a bit on the joseki on the left bottom.

Thanks for the great review Knotwilg. Two lessons noted; 1st is I'm too obsessed about shape points and ignore all the other moves when I see a potential tiger's mouth. Second one is to remember playing near to my weakest group in a fight. |

Instead of 27 in the game or your alternative, try 2 below... |
