These study journals seem to be all the rage lately.

I have decided to follow the advice as outlined here: http://www.igoindonesia.org/tutorial-go/115-article/846-to-become-a-master-of-go-is-not-easy-but-became-an-amateur-5d-or-6d-its-not-hard.html.

First up is the Lee Changho's selected life and death problems (http://senseis.xmp.net/?LiChangHoJingjiangWeiqiSihuo). The first book is supposed to be very easy, and they are supposed to progress in difficulty. After that is Lee Changho's Tesuji series (http://senseis.xmp.net/?LiChangHoJingjiangWeiqiShoujin). Finally, after that is WeiQi life and death 1000 (http://senseis.xmp.net/?WeiqiLifeAndDeath1000Problems).

My plan: Bring a notepad, and record which ones I got wrong/which ones took a while. Review these especially to correct my mistakes. To "clear" a book, I need to be able to go through it taking an average of less than 30seconds per problem, with 95%+ accuracy. I repeat a book until it is cleared.

I will record my progress here, along with what I scribble down on my notepad. I am setting no specific deadlines or periodic requirements.

Had been busy lately, but yesterday I made progress.

I went through volume 1 of the L&D. I got 1 problem wrong and 6 problems took longer to get than I wanted. I will redo the book until I am satisfied.

Problems that took ~60 seconds to find and verify the correct variation:
21
37
68
83
90
Problems that took ~90 seconds to find and verify the correct variation:
121

Problems wrong:
102: I got in the flow of quickly answering without fully checking all of the opponent's possible responses, which is a bad habit of mine. This falls under the 1st mistake in the guide I referenced above---"a) Didn't clear every variations in your mind, just decide by feel, it's a critical mistake for your calculation." [sic].

Yesterday, I started to redo vol. 1. I did all the problems up to 45 successfully.

Today, I finished vol. 1 successfully. I began vol. 2 and worked up to problem 54.

The following took me more than 30seconds to solve:
2: 90 seconds

The following I got wrong:
3: Failure to check all variations
10: Failure to check all variations
29: Failure to check all variations
34: Failure to check all variations
54: After finding a solution that ended in ko, I didn't quickly find an absolute solution, so I stuck with the ko one (as several of the problems are correct with ko). It turned out there was an absolute solution.

Continuing in vol. 2:

Took 60 seconds:
91

Took 180 seconds:
93s

Wrong:
70 - going too fast and not verifying
94 - failure to read opponents best moves / all variations

Yesterday I finished vol 2, 1st pass:

took 60 seconds:
109
123

took 180 seconds:
111

Today I plan to work through this volume again - hopefully successfully, but I expect to still have some trouble, and have to redo it.
