Hi everyone, I have posted a little bit recently and I think I'd like to stick around a bit, so I will introduce myself.

I have been playing go for about 1-2 years, and I studied with Guo Juan's group classes (C and B1). I used to play chess competitively before I moved overseas (Berlin). I find the way of thinking about the games is similar, which has helped me improve quickly. The moves on the board speak a conversation between the players. Learn to listen to it, use it to make a plan, and don't forget your opponent gets to move too.

I say I'm about 5kyu, but I just took a 6 month break so I am a little rusty. My rating online has not converged, but at the local club I did win against a 1k player giving me 4 stones, so I think it's more or less "middle SDK". For a middle SDK player, I'm probably above average in positional judgement, and below average in shapes and contact play. Which is what you'd expect from a chess player, IMO.

Welcome!

Where does the name Peppernut originate? It's the literal translation for a Dutch kind of biscuit related to our 'Sinterklaas'-tradition. Seems kind of coincidental that an American German has it as his username.

It's no coincidence, that's where it comes from. In German it's Pfeffernuss. At the time I took it as an online nickname I found literal translations to be good sources of amusing word combinations. For the English speakers, it's a gingerbread cookie.

Wikipedia says that the German variant comes from the Netherlands, actually. Usually they are glazed and called "Lebkuchen" in my experience. They are common around Christmastime.
