G'day.

I play in Brisbane. There used to be only one go club in the entire city, and for that matter the entire state of Queensland, but then I enrolled at the University of Queensland for something or other and ended up infecting the campus gaming society. So now there's one and a half. I play at both, equally badly. Somewhere around four kyu in Australian rankings, plus or minus three standard deviations.

The thing about tournament go on this continent is that in any first-class tournament, at least half of the open division (first dan and up) will have flown in from cities in other time zones, and the handicap division will be local kyus. So I play online a lot, and spend my club time alternately teaching beginners and getting pummeled by dan players. There is always my ancient nemesis, kifudancer, to play when I feel an urgent need not to see a handicap stone for a couple of hours, so I'm still nominally sane.

Any other Aussies out there?

Howdy, and welcome! Man, I wish people flew in to tournaments in Texas. I'm happy enough just to drive 4 hours to a tournament with 20 or so people, of whom two or three are dan players. Good to meet you, enjoy the forum.
