Hello,

I was introduced to go as a teenager, but I never really pursued the game. A while ago I shifted my focus from miniature games to easy-to-pickup classic games such as go and xiangqi and decided to look for online resources to browze at work. I'm also going to look for local clubs in the Helsinki city area to check out.

I love the classic "Asian dualism" that is so apparent in go. You know, the old "easy to learn, difficult to master" thing. Besides boardgames I spend my time rocking out in two bands (guitar/vox and bass) so the shift from miniature games to simpler games made a lot of sense. I'm hoping to hone my logic skills and visualization with go. :batman:

Nordic players are free to hit me up for live games and general banter. Well everybody is but it would be neat to meet local players!

Welcome.

There are several clubs in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Check suomigo.net: http://www.suomigo.net/wiki/Kerhot (don't be fooled by some affiliations with universities, everyone is welcome - at least I believe so)

Helsingin go-kerho at Poromagia would be a good location where it not for all the miniature scenes also gathering there hehe. Too bad the Natural Flavour Tea House closed down... Yli Go might be the way to go.

I just started reading Malkovich games. A truly fascinating resource! Good reading for slow work days.

Welcome :-)

You can join, but you can never leave :-)

Shougi is fun, too. Xiangqi is too chaotic and unpredictable, shougi is slower and more positional somehow. If you capture a piece, it becomes your piece.

Thank you. :) Funny, I like xiangqi because to me it's a nice, structured chess game. At least compared to western chess that has more powerful pieces. Haven't tried shogi yet. I got xiangqi and my hugely competitive roommate got shogi, so I haven't arsed myself to try yet.
