Hi, I'm Luiz, I'm 16 and I love Go! :D I discovered go in the last year, but I stopped playing a few months ago, and this week I've rediscovered it. I'm currently 17 kyu at KGS, and I feel like I still have to learn a lot, but it take it easily. After all, I play because it's fun. Anyone wants to play? :D

I've also told about Go to my friends recently, some of them got interested, but the lack of a goban really gets in the way. Since importation taxes can be very high around here (I live in Brazil), this means I won't have a goban until at least next month. Also, there is a nearly absence of go books in portuguese... However I'm still planning to teach some of my friends sometime soon :D

when I first learned the game and couldn't afford to get a "real" goban, I used a Pente game board for my first one (they're the same size). Next I got some plywood at a lumber yard and drew the lines with a pen

I once worked with a guy who grew up in China. He told me that he and his buddies would just draw lines on paper and mark X's and O's during class at school.

I've actually never played Pente, and I think a pente game board may be at least as rare as a goban around here... Anyway, I've found a cheap goban, and I'll probably buy it next month. And thanks for the paper suggestion, I think that could work for now. :D
