Hi :),

I first learned about Go years and years ago, and while I got a book with instructions about how to play, and even downloaded some software to play against, until recently, I hadn't really played all that much (In general, I find playing board games against a computer to be too sterile, interacting with someone is half the fun of playing a game). Although I have known about online go for years, it is only recently that I have discovered them. So finally, I have really started playing the game.

Living near Washington DC, I know there are some Go clubs near by, but with a toddler at home, and a new baby on the way, getting out for an evening of Go will probably remain a rare luxury for the foreseeable future (That being said, I hope my son in a couple of years might get interested in games like go and chess, since they are far better ways of spending time than watching TV). That being said, I probably will see if I can take a small portion of my tax refund and invest in a modest goban and stones (so don't be surprised if I start asking questions about equipment :)).

Hope to play some of you (and learn from you) on KGS in the near future :).

Welcome Bill!

I know a 4 Dan player who started when his son was an infant. He would play on KGS while the kid was napping and got quite a bit of playing time in. Of course, his son has now been around Go his entire life and at 14 years old doesn't want to have anything to do with the stuff his Dad likes, but he'll come around ;).

Hope to see you on KGS.

Well, I am hoping to make it on KGS a couple of evenings a week (Other evenings, my wife and I want to do stuff together, including games, but so far she is not interested in Go). Since MarylandBill is too long for KGS, my handle there is IrishBill. I look forward to some games with you folks on there.
