Hi

I'm new to Go, and I'm 35, I guess older than most beginners.

A friend of mine got interested to the game some years ago. He was competing
for a while and got to be 5kyu, then he moved to other hobbies.
I saw him playing several times and I've always being willing to try it by myself.
Now I'm unemployed and I have some free time.

In my city few people play Go, and Go equipment is expensive and scarce.
I wish I'd convince some of my friends to play.

I've being reading a little bit and what I find not so easy is the final counting.
I mean, at the end, is not automatic to decide what pieces are dead or not.

;)

This is a very common problem for beginners. I would advise that if you are in doubt you and your opponent play out the situation until you are satisfied that you know the final status.

Well, it's never too late to start. I started in the age of 38 and have made it to 7k (according to the European Go Federation), even though I don't play much any more. You can achieve this if you put a little effort into it.

Bienvenido y cordial saludo desde Alemania

The question is that if I convince some other newbie to play against me he wouldn't understand why he is losing because I can't understand the counting process myself, and he will believe I'm cheating him and won't play again.

Now I'm trying to find a good price equipment on the Internet, but shipping is more expensive than the product itself.

I'll keep surfing this forum.
I'm also very much interested in computer go (FueGo, GnuGo...)
