Well I have been lurking for a few weeks, and am rather impressed with life in 19x19. Thought it to be about time to come out of the shadows and make myself known.

As a high school student from Texas, I have plenty of time to spend on my obsession with this wonderful game.
I'm currently a 12 kyu KGS, although this will change more likely then not as I was a 15 kyu a few weeks ago :D
I first found out about the game from Hikaru no go, about November 2011. But didn't start learning the game until late January 2012.

My goal is shodan by my next birthday, November 14th. And I'm interested in finding a nemesis/rival interested in working to dan with me. This would involve anything as simple as doing our best to beat the hooey out of each other on KGS(or whatever server), on a weekly basis. At least one game(of ours) that we review together a week. To some joint study program :study: (that I am unsure of how to approach, but would be awesome)

All the big tests arive in mid may for my school so might be out of commission then, but after that would have the whole summer to commit.

Lastly, because there is an emoticon, and I can't figure out how I would use it in any serious context....
:batman:
That is all.

I don't know what "serious" means, but sometimes you :batman: after saying something particularly daring. Alternately, if you're just feeling particularly cool, it works wonders.

Welcome to the boards.

Which year in high school?
You can think of shodan like getting accepted to a university --
when you have some very rudimentary understanding of the fundamentals
and are ready for the next step in your education.
So if you imagine all the school work you need from grade school all the way
to college acceptance, that's how much work you need to make shodan in Go.
So, 7 months to Nov 14 -- enjoy and good luck! :)

I'm a senior, and basically my plan for the summer is one word.. Go, or perhaps Weiqi or Baduk.. depends on the language
I'm sure shodan is hard to reach, but I just can't learn enough about the game.. hours dissappear when I'm doing something Go related, and once I have all my waking hours to commit... well It'll be interesting to see how it turns out :rambo:
Wouldn't it be interesting if I made shodan before my first day of University  Of course that is incredibly arrogant and unlikely, but after your analogy it would just tickle me

It would be, very much indeed!
You can start working on your basics (fundamentals) -- see blindgod's thread :) -- viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5822
Keep us posted on your progress!

@EdLee
So I do.. well that comes from being a Kyu I suppose.

I will most definitely keep everyone updated, even if it is only from seeking help with progressively "stronger" problems :)
