Hi all,
Please see my other reviews here;
Tesuji;
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15712Life and Death;
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15712The following is a review of the Capturing Races books from that series.
The three books;
ISBN's (in order of difficulty)
9787564412685
9787564412623
9787564412692
The books are again separated in to levels; 5k, 1k, 1D. Each book is divided in to sections, containing problems linked by a theme. Each section begins with a number of worked examples, that may include diagrams for an incorrect answer. There are 50 of these in each of the three books. These could also be treated as extra problems, but are not included in the problem counts below. All the books in this series have 6 problems per page (except for the examples, which is 2 per page) with a single correct answer diagram in the back of the book.
Book 1 288 problems.
Again the series begins very easy, with a gradual increase in difficulty throughout the book. So far it seems like this is slightly easier than the L&D book, with the Tesuji book being slightly harder than the L&D book. I would say suited for around 10k, as a mid-high SDK a quick look through tells me I can solve most problems in this book almost instantly.
Sections; Problems grouped by how many liberties your group has, number in brackets are just a series number, i.e. Two Liberties (part 1);
1. Two Liberties (1)
2. Two Liberties (2)
3. Three Liberties (1)
4. One Eye Kills No Eye
5. Three Liberties (2)
6. Three Liberties (3)
Example problems;
Problem 2, Black to play;
** Need to edit tonight, I accidentally took a problem from book 2 **
A later problem, from section 6.

Book 2288 problems. Indicated rank is 1k, the first problems seem more like mid-SDK could solve them.
Sections;
1. Two Liberties (1)
2. Two Liberties (2)
3. Three Liberties (1)
4. Three Liberties (2)
5. Preventing Capture
6. Not sure how to translate, will ask someone at the club. A lot of the exercises seem to involve a sacrifice, or using whites shortage of liberties against him.
7. One Eye Kills No Eye
8 & 9. Both appears to be a kind of test, or just more problems using various techniques or variations of techniques, with 9 being harder than 8

Book 3288 problems. Indicated rank is 1D. No comment on difficulty from me, they seem to be above my level, but I haven't spent any real time trying to solve them.
