Anyone know how the 200 will be chosen?

I guess it’s just first come, first serve … and IIRC a few minutes ago there were only 35 slots left, probably filled by now.

I figured that out right after posting. I just got a spot there were 24 left.
Ps: looking for a game right now, but I am not sure how to start one.

en, I was waiting from morning to evening (China time).
It got released in the morning of aug 4th, so I guess the server is filled with Americas (north, south) users, and a couple Europeans.

Anyway, there are 4 slots left at this time. I tried to register my account but whatever email/nickname I input I get the error message: Nickname or Email invalid or already in use

All the nicknames I inserted are valid and I'm sure they are not already in use (same for email)
I tried public and private emails.

I tried with 3 different browsers (and before the usual suspects leave a comment: My internet connection is working fine, I have js enabled, security, proxy, whatever you guys can come up with, my computer is working.)

When the admins see this message and fix whatever problem they're having it will be night here in China, so I guess no beta account for me.

Ok, that was fun while it lasted. (10 seconds)
I guess I'm stuck with old bugged kgs and I'll wait for the html client.

Well done kaya.

Perhaps you were trying to create the account twice. Try checking your email

We run out of accounts a while ago. Thanks for noticing this! It was a small arithmetic issue :). We are now processing all we learnt from the feedback of the new 200 users (in under 6 hours).
When we are ready to take in new users and not suffer lag, we will be opening up more and more.

Until the next account opening!

Edit: now :P

Oh, if you have problems counting until 200 it's going to be difficult running a go server.

Anyway, I'm not into login races, so I will not check everyday to see if a couple accounts have been released during US time.

Hope you solve the lag problem, it's the worst thing that can happen to a game server.

Good luck.

I’m sure it’s “now”, not “not” ;-)

Please remember that this is not a final release, this is a beta. One of the main purposes of a beta is to find problems like this and stress test the servers. Considering the fact that yesterday there were several times more registrations and people logged on than there ever had been in the past, it went pretty well. While it does suck that you didn't get an account, like I said, this is a BETA release, and it should be expected that it will be buggy and not running perfectly yet.

I'm not :)

When I contacted Gabriel about adding Go variants such as Redstone, his response was something like "When you get 20,000 Redstone players, I'll think it over."

Oh the irony...

Do you know that there is a feedback page? If you make your suggestion there, other users can vote on whether they want the feature too. It doesn't seem though like something that would be way high up on the priority list of a developing server, but apparently some go variants are already planned.

It's reasonable, though. If you have a limited amount of resources (time, money, energy, coders, etc.), you have to decide how to best spend them. Investing a potentially substantial amount of your limited resources into something that would neither increase the happiness of a relevant percentage of your existing users/customers, nor significantly help you to attract new users/customers (based on evidence, such as expressed interest or, better, successful implementation elsewhere), isn't a very economical approach.

It's tempting to feel that you have to first offer feature X and then new people to whom feature X is of critical importance will come, even if no large number of users/customers have actually asked for it, but from experience (in social gaming and getting feature requests all the time) I can say that this is definitely not usually true.

It's a Go server... not a go variants server. It would be crazy to have all of them there.

But not the best of them :)

...plus Gabriel chided me for my "well known" Internet hooliganism. This from a guy who openly scorns excellent advice from well wishers, while simultaneously seeking donations.

Gabriel's primary objective is glory. An open mind and abundant qualifications could facilitate that. But excessive hype and insufficient programming skill... As they say in Maine, "Ya cont get theyah from heyah."

Start by establishing a solid foundation and then gradually add features. Kaya was glory driven bass ackward.

Take a minute and chill down. This sort of vitriol is completely unnecessary. This forum isn't the place for personal disputes or attacks.

I have not checked Gabriel's code since I don't know enough Ruby to judge or help, but the server is working pretty well, for a beta just barely a year old, which I think is already quite a feat. Why don't you write a Redstone go server?

And you're trying to tell us that the inventor of Redstone is not aiming for glory when suggesting that Redstone be an added feature of a new go server.

The developer of a go server has every right not to accept suggestions and proposals which they don't find attractive to their own goals and objectives.

Of course if you are really interested in promoting a Redstone server, you are welcome to try to fund, hype and program your own development. Just don't expect other people to promote your project for you at their expense.

What?
Your message was edited about 2.5 hours ago. I see no registration form.
Hard to check kaya announcements when they're hidden in an old message.

Next release, can you open 50% of accounts during US time and the other 50% during day time in East Asia? Can you also advertise 1 day before you open the registration?

There's a blog for kaya but I cannot access it from China. Can you put announcement on the main page of kaya.gs and in an independant thread here?
